Sustainable Data Centers Symposium

Sustainable Data Centers Symposium

May 1, 2026 | Stanford University

Exploring Local Alignment on Land Use and Energy Policies for AI Infrastructure

Main content start

As data centers proliferate due to growth in AI and other uses, generating increased revenue for cities, their demand for energy, land, and water is growing, too. How should cities and local governments concerned about sustainability and climate action respond? Local policymakers have a key role given their land use powers. How should governing agencies set parameters that balance the development of AI infrastructure to enhance quality of life and climate action while supporting sustainability and energy reliability and affordability?

This symposium will explore best practices, common challenges, and solutions such as model ordinances. We will convene policymakers, climate activists, industry experts, academics, energy sector analysts, and more to share perspectives and consider paths forward.

This is an invite-only event. Please email Sarah Weaver if you are interested in attending.
